Field Trip Report

Skiatook Lake, Tallchief Cove

Tulsa Rock and Mineral Society and BAPaleo

Sunday, July 23rd, 2006

We had a good turnout for the field trip this month. partially due to the proximity to Tulsa, and the cooler weather in the wake of an excruciating heat-wave last week. The planned field trip was to Skiatook Lake's Tallchief Cove, approximately eight miles west of Sperry, OK, in Osage County. many different marine fossil species are found at this location, including: Conularids, Brachiopods, Crinoids, Cephalopods, Gastropods, Pelecopods, Bryozoa, and more. Up to fifty different species are known here. Unfortunately, the site is in danger due to impending development of a private resort and housing development. If you would like information on this site, contact me for information by email.

The following pictures should tell the story fairly well. Many nice specimens were recovered at the site.
