I Hear Jasper Calling My Name

(Continued)

Eventually I went to help Brandon with his log and much to my surprise, he had found the best one of the trip (again)! the log turned out to be in four segments, and was approximately 12" in diameter. The combined length of the segments is over seven feet long. The detail of the log is such that it would surely appear to the casual observer as a recently fallen tree! Definitely a hardwood species, probably live oak, the log has knots and remnants of limbs up to three inches, knotholes, and predatory markings. It's simply an amazing specimen that is equal to Dancer in it's own right. I will have to get some pictures of the log to add to this report shortly.

Speaking of Dancer, the spot I mentioned that I was busy digging up several hundred pounds more of petrified wood? Well, that spot happens to be where I discovered and rescued Dancer from the skid loaders and logging equipment. Within thirty feet of the spot Dancer was found, I located a second, smaller piece of the same tree, in fact, the same burl or portion of the tree that produced Dancer. Dancer now has a partner, named aptly, "Prancer"

The following pictures will show the log segments of Brandon's log loaded behind and next to the ATV.
